NVRAM Module for Gottlieb Sys3

No More Batteries!

This is a premium quality nonvolatile RAM (NVRAM) Replacement for Gottlieb System 3 Pinball Machines. Replaces the 6116 / 6264 RAM at U3 on an original Gottlieb System 3 MPU board. Absolutely no batteries are needed to retain your high scores or game settings, you can remove them from your game. Machine pin headers are used on this module which are very durable and won't damage your socket at all.

REQUIRES SOLDERING / MODIFICATION OF MPU!

Please note that upgrading to nvram on Gottlieb System 3 MPUs will require modification of the MPU board as noted below.

Remove the Dallas 1210 chip marked "U6" on the board
Add two wire jumpers at the U6 footprint per instructions
Remove the soldered RAM at U3 and install the 28-pin IC socket in its place
Remove lithium coin cell battery from board
If the board was previously using a 6116 (24-pin) RAM, swap the JP3 wire jumper to the JP4 position
Install the new NVRAM into the IC socket, making sure to orient the notch of the chip properly

If you don't have soldering experience or aren't comfortable modifying your board (AT YOUR OWN RISK) then you should hire a professional to do this upgrade for you or leave your board as-is and replace the lithium battery instead if your game is no longer holding high scores. The Gottlieb System 3 boards have thin traces and are a bit more fragile than some boards, so you MUST have decent soldering equipment and technique for successful installation of the NVRAM.

WHY REPLACE YOUR EXISTING RAM WITH NVRAM?
Unfortunately battery corrosion damage is much too common in games that used alkaline batteries for powering the RAM when the pinball machine is off. Many people have reported that even new batteries from major brands can sometimes leak after a year or two for no apparent reason. The corrosive alkaline can leak or wick into the board and over time will destroy the copper traces on the board and any ICs it comes in contact with. Don't let this happen to your game!

NVRAM is shipped in anti-static foam & anti-static bag inside a small USPS First Class Mail box. Installation instructions are included.

Note: The underlying nvram chip / IC used in these modules is long obsolete and extremely costly everywhere. Parts distributors have stock at $50-200 per chip!! 2023 Update - No luck sourcing good parts elsewhere, so looking like this product will be pulled once remaining parts sell out. We have only a few tubes left.

New and unused items can be returned within 2 weeks of receipt and must be in resaleable condition. Products that were damaged during installation or that show signs of use will only be eligible for a partial refund. Returns are only accepted with prior authorization, so please email us to let us know you would like to return an item. Buyer pays for return shipping. Original shipping costs are not refunded.

Pinitech LLC offers a 180-day limited warranty against defects on all ASSEMBLED products manufactured by Pinitech. Warranty does not cover improper installation or modifications beyond intended use. DIY Kits are handled on a per-case basis and limited to parts replacement only. Due to their nature, we cannot warranty assembly done by others on DIY Kits.
